Picturing Protest : Demonstrations
I have been working at a local radio station for some weeks and i was sent to report on a demonstration against racism in the town of Poitiers. Recording interviews and background noises aside, I have decided to put my (new) old Nikon camera to the fire test, because only using it to take pictures of nature isn't fun, ay ? Because film is starting to get tight (so is my developping budget), I've looked at acquiring a camera that could take good quality pictures with still a bit of an "old" feeling to it. The Nikon I got is a Nikon L120, which is a budget camera with 14.1MP, which is quite a lot for a camera from 2008, but risible compared to what smartphones can do. In comparison, one Iphone 16 camera lens can take pictures at 48MP !

The main difficulties was about following the demonstration and getting sharp pictures. One thing i did was walking a few metres ahead of the crowd, then waiting to get the pictures i wanted. I sometimes stopped in the middle of the crowd to take some pictures. It helped me a lot about taking a lot of pictures in such a small time frame and having the good timing when in a unpredictable crowd.
